Image RetroVision Books is proud to announce three books that explore the phenomenon that is War of the Worlds.





The first two, in collaboration with Pendragon Pictures, serves as the only authorized companions to their faithful adaptation of H.G.Wells' classic novel. The third title looks at the history of War of the Worlds in its entirely, from original publication through its various adaptations over the decades. Book One: The Lost Film


A behind the scenes look at the modern day Pendragon version of War of the Worlds that wasn't, taking the project from its point of conception through the design stage, negotiations with studios and talent and the ultimate impact September 11th had on the production. Book one culminates with the decision to mothball the project and the reasons behind it. From there, the entire original unfilmed script is offered, which is accompanied by a wide variety of storyboards and production illustrations. Approximately 200 pages. Book Two: All's Well That Ends Wells


This companion to the Pendragon film begins with a brief recap of the events of Book One, primarily the terrorist attacks of September 11th and the filmmakers' sense of responsibility that they could not go forward with the film as originally envisioned, feeling that it suddenly mirrored reality too closely. Tracked is the hit the film took in terms of budget, dropping from $42 million to $8 million and eventually up again to $20+ million. Creatively, the decision to hark back to the H.G. Wells novel is explored as well as the fact that this is the first version to truly tap into the source material. The screenplay for the film is included accompanied by numerous production illustrations and photographs from the film. Also included are interviews with cast members and behind the scenes special effects personnel, who tell the entire story of the making of the film. Approximately 200 pages. Wells' original novel, this volume offers a riveting behind-the-scenes history of the subject that spans Orson Welles' classic radio broadcast of 1938 and Paramount Pictures' '50s sci-fi classic through the television movie The Night That Panicked America, the 1988-90 syndicated television series, various comic book and novels utilizing the concept, and 2005's dueling War of the Worlds projects, the Pendragon version set in Victorian England and the Steven Spielberg/Tom Cruise modern day retelling.
