1. The film has been given a huge budget, recent reports suggest $128 million, but it could possibly be as high as $200 million. Spielberg's answer for the high budget:  "We will spare no expense"

2. Spielberg became interested in making a version of the story during the 1990s, but instead of becoming a straight adaptation that project evolved into the film Deep Impact.

3. Initially estimated to have a 2007 release date, this film was abruptly greenlit in mid-August 2004, for a 2005 release, causing substantial delays in director Steven Spielberg's and star Tom Cruise's other projects.

4. While filming in Bayonne, New Jersey, studio Paramount Pictures offered quick cash to residents who lived on First Street and Pointview Terrace to move their cars off the block, between a Tuesday and Friday. This was in order for the film crew to resume shooting.

5. The crew started filming only seven months prior to its release. In order to finish all 500+ CGI effects, Spielberg did all the big action scenes in the early stages of shooting.

6. Gene Barry & Ann Robinson who appeared in the 1953 War of the Worlds movie are the only cast members from the original to make an appearance in this remake.
